LWHS Starting Athletic Hall of Fame

Lake Wales High School is getting its own athletic hall of fame.

The Highlander Booster Club will be inaugurating its first class on Saturday, May 4, with nominations for potential honorees due by March 15.

Applications are available by visiting the group's facebook page or at http://www.lwboosterclub.com.

"The purpose of the Highlander Hall of Fame is to celebrate the Highlander athletic program, honor the past success of Highlander athletics, inform students and community about Highlander athletic program history, promote school spirit and unity and reconnect alumni with the Highlander Booster Club and athletic teams," said Shelli Jacobs, who is one of the people helping organize the new hall.

This program is designed to honor graduates and community members affiliated with Lake Wales High School, living or deceased, who have distinguished themselves as an outstanding representative of any LWHS athletic team through accomplishment, leadership, support, service and/or character.

The 15-person selection committee will include the current Lake Wales athletic director, the current four officers of the booster club, a former and current Lake Wales High School administrator, a pair of longtime Lake Wales coaches or athletic directors, two former Lake Wales coaches and four high school alumni.

The induction ceremony will be held at Lake Wales Country Club. Tickets are $50 per person with dinner, cash bar, silent auction and 50/50 drawing all part of the festivities.
