Shooter Dead, Two Victims Wounded After Incident

Police Investigation Locates Weapon, Unravels Sequence of Events

Lake Wales Police have apparently unraveled the threads of a fatal shooting that occurred shortly after 1:30 in the afternoon on Sunday, August 28.

Lake Wales Police were summoned to the area of 32 W. Seminole Avenue and found three young men had been wounded in an exchange of gunfire following an argument inside the apartment, As the group left the apartment, 21-year-old Camron Salas produced a handgun and began shooting. wounding two of the men, one 17 and one 18 years of age.

During a lengthy investigation detectives learned that as Salas was shooting," another man retrieved a handgun from the residence and shot Salas, who died at the scene," according to police. The other two victims were transported to local hospitals and both survived their injuries. They have not been charged with any crime.

Investigating detectives discovered that 39-year-old Vernon Scarlett of Lake Wales had taken the handgun used by Salas and hidden it following the shooting. Scarlett cooperated with detectives that firearm, crucial evidence in the case, was recovered.

According to police, it appeared to be an isolated incident. All subjects involved are cooperating with the investigation., which remains open.
