Learn About Gopher Tortoise, Landlord of the Upland, Jan. 9

The Sierra Club is hosting a presentation Jan. 9 about why the Gopher Tortoise is such an important, enigmatic species – landlord of the upland.

Polly, the resident Gopher Tortoise at Circle B, will be in attendance to demonstrate the characteristics that make this species so unique.

Ongoing gopher tortoise research at Circle B Bar Reserve will also be discussed.

The program presented by Pam DeNeve begins at 7 p.m., with a covered dish dinner at 6:30 p.m. Those who wish to participate in the dinner should bring a dish to share, along with their own drink and utensils.

Also, it gets dark in the Circle B parking lot at night, so participants are encouraged to bring a flashlight. This meeting will be in the Classroom Building, which is the third building from the main parking lot. Circle B is located at 4399 Winter Lake Road in Lakeland
