Polk County Public Schools has teamed up with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Health in Polk County to warn students and families about the dangers of vaping.

The school district produced a public service video featuring PCPS Superintendent Jacqueline Byrd, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, and Dr. Joy Jackson, director of the Florida Department of Health in Polk. The video also features students from George Jenkins, Ridge Community and Winter Haven high schools.

"Youth vaping is a growing public health threat here in Polk County," Dr. Jackson said. "Vaping is unsafe for kids, teens and young adults, and its long-term effects are still unknown. We are committed to addressing these concerns in our community about the rising youth vaping epidemic with the help of our parents and educators."

In addition to the many health risks linked to vaping, the PSA video also discusses the consequences that students can face if they are found with a vaping device or liquid in school. Students can be subject to discipline (including suspension), or even criminal charges if they are found in possession of vaping devices/accessories containing THC or other illegal substances.

The video is available on the Polk County Public Schools YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDW3PBBBQS0. It will also be shared on the district's social media accounts to help promote awareness about vaping among Polk County students and schools.
