Philip Coopy, 1939-2020

Philip Robert Coopy, 80, of Lake Wales passed away Sunday, April 19, 2020 at his residence.

He was born April 27, 1939 in Plattsburgh, NY to the late Lester and Mary Coopy; he moved to Lake Wales from Virginia in 2000. Philip worked as an Information Management Supervisor for the Department of Defense for 36 years. He was a veteran of the Navy, during Vietnam War. Philip played the banjo for the John Skilman Band, Saints and Sinners. He was known as one of the best banjo players around.

Philip was preceded in death by his son, Douglas Andrew in 1992. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Joyce Coopy; daughter, Donamarie Phillips and husband Robert of Lake Wales; sons, John Coopy and wife Nilza of Venice, Kevin Harris and wife Deborah of Cape Coral, and Tony Harris and wife Lisa of Knoxville, Tennessee; sister, Mary Johnston and husband Donald of Rouses Point, New York; brother, William Coopy and wife Mary Ann of Remsen, New York; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales is handling arrangements.
