John VanHoose, 1941-2020

John Samuel VanHoose, 79, of Lake Wales passed away Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020 at Advent Health Lake Wales.

John was born September 1, 1941 in Paintsville, KY to the late Angus “Hoosie” VanHoose and Mary Newsome VanHoose.

John made Florida his home over 20 years ago after spending 20 years RVing to 49 out of the 50 states. He was a retired college assistant professor at Morehead State University with a master’s degree in Industrial Education, Woodcrafts and Teacher Instruction in the vocational field. He enjoyed fishing and University of Kentucky basketball. He loved his family above all else, spending time with his kids and grandkids was very special for him.

John is survived by his wife of 59 years Sandra Lee Oppenheimer VanHoose, and Blaze their beloved dog and faithful companion. John is also survived by his sons, Dr. John S. VanHoose II (Katie Hodges) of Lake Charles LA, and Jason S. VanHoose (Debra VanHoose) of West Liberty, KY; Grandchildren, Alexandra Duet (Chase Duet), Brenna Young (Alex Damerow), Justin VanHoose (Kali Tackett), Andrea VanHoose and John S. “Jack” VanHoose III. He was preceded in death by grandson, Jason S. VanHoose II.

Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales is handling arrangements.
