Congressional Internships Offered to College Students, Recent Grads

Representative Darren Soto Seeks Interns For Washington DC and Local Offices

College and University students and recent graduates wishing to gain valuable work experience working with a Congressional office are encouraged to apply for one of several internship openings being offered by Congressman Darren Soto (FL-09), who represents the Lake Wales area. Internships are available both in Washington DC and locally in a district office.

Applications are now being accepted for the spring semester, which runs from January to May, but openings occur for the fall and summer semesters as well.

Applicants may choose to serve in the Washington, D.C., office where they will learn about the legislative process and the functions of a congressional office. They may have various responsibilities including answering phones, running errands, researching legislation for the member and legislative staff, attending hearings and briefings, and answering constituent letters. Hours are flexible to accommodate course schedules.

Representative Soto also hosts a press intern in the Washington, D.C., office every semester. This position reports and works closely with the communications director. Responsibilities include compiling press clips, creating graphics and digital content, drafting social media content, conducting research, and assisting the press staff with the daily operations of a very active press office. The ideal candidate must work well under pressure and tight deadlines, have good written and oral communication skills. Previous experience is not required, but candidates with Florida ties, who have an interest in communications, media, politics, and a general understanding of government are encouraged to apply.
