Communication Builds Our Community

New City Communications Director Hopes to Reach More Citizens

Eric Marshall Part of City Effort to Increase Interaction, Guide Priorities

Communications and information about City of Lake Wales activities and services should be easier to find, as a result of the hiring of Marketing and Communications Director Eric Marshall, who started his orientation in mid-December.

Marshall, 48, is a graduate of the University of South Florida, where he studied mass communications, multimedia, and communications law. He comes to Lake Wales after a stint at Polk County Parks and Recreation. That was preceded by 13 years in the telecommunications industry.

The hiring follows closely upon the launching of a new community-wide survey intended to gather resident opinions that will help the city set priorities for future improvements. That survey is ongoing.

Marshall hopes to "proactively interact with residents" who will be affected by planned city projects, including downtown property owners and residents of the Northwest Neighborhood, where an extensive program of sidewalk-building and street tree planting will begin in 2022.

Marshall plans to "maximize the city's social media" presence, he said, with enhanced photo and video content. Marshall's responsibilities will also include providing information to news media and assisting in marketing Lake Wales to the wider world.
