"Too beautiful to eat" A show-stopping cake created by local baker Al Zapata in the form of a Tiffany lamp was a highlight for visitors during the Lake Wales Main Street Winedown Thursday evening.

A unique and colorful specialty shop is holding a grand opening Saturday in the Rhodesbilt Arcade on Stuart Avenue downtown when "Modern Day Tiffanys" opens their doors to the public. Owner Rita Strempack offers a stunning array of the beautiful and traditional favorites. The shop offers chandeliers, table lamps, and dozens of lighting variations.

The storefront at Modern Day Tiffanys offers a dazzling and attractive display of colorful art glass lighting fixtures, ideal décor for both homes and professional offices.

The appropriate location in the well-known arcade building brings the stained-glass collection in close proximity to the many stained-glass transoms that mark the historic building. The lamps are inspired by the famous work of Louis Comfort Tiffany, who established stained glass work as an art form that could be expanded beyond church windows to decorate private homes. Original works bring tens of thousands of dollars at auction.

During a "sneak preview" of the shop help in conjunction with the Lake Wales Main Street Winedown event Thursday evening the shop exhibited a crowd-stopping cake in the form of one of the famous lamps, created by local cake artisan Al Zapata.
