AAUW to Honor Three Local "Women Who Made History"

Johanna Buscher-Shedler, Kathe Galloway, and Ethel Austin to be Recognized

Ethel Austin is among three Women Who Made History being honored by the Lake Wales chapter of the American Association of University Women. Austin is being recognized posthumously for her significant contributions to education and community development.

A special event this Tuesday, March 22 will honor three area "Women Who Made History." The event will be hosted by the Lake Wales chapter of the American Association of University Women.

"Women Who Made History on the Ridge" will honor Johanna Buscher-Shedler, Kathe Galloway, and Ethel Austin, (posthumously) will be feted for their work. Charlene Bennett, speaking on behalf of the AAUW, invited area residents to "join us in learning about the contributions, challenges, and successes of these three trail-blazing women."

The event will take place on March 22, 2022. 4:30 p.m.at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 221 S. Fourth St., Lake Wales. A social hour with appetizers will begin at 4:30 p.m .; the awards ceremony will begin at 5:15, followed by desserts and an opportunity to greet the honorees.
