Woman's Club Offers Traditional "Dickens Christmas" Experience

Only 80 Tickets Will Be Offered For Event

Traditional music, costumed characters, and an "English Pub Feast" are in store for up to 80 guests quick enough to obtain a ticket to the annual "Old-Fashioned Dickens Christmas" at the Lake Wales Woman's Club.

The clubhouse is being lavishly decorated for the evening, and community volunteers will don classic "Olde English" period costumes to add to the evening's special atmospheric experiences. The event will begin at 6:00 pm Saturday, December 17.

The menu for the dinner will include traditional English pub fare, including fish and chips, bangers and mash, bubble and squeak, Scotch eggs, roasted vegetables, and a flaming Christmas pudding for dessert.

"Bangers and mash" is a special sausage dish, while bubble and squeak is a delicious "potato and cabbage vegetable dish," according to Jessica Bray, chair of the event.

Entertainment will include "joyous live music and strolling carolers," with Christmas music performed by noted pianist Victoria DeLissovoy,

"The Woman's Club puts the "fun" in fund-raising, to support our historic building and community programs," Bray said.

"We're all about the food," added club member Deborah Partlow.

Tickets to the event are $25 per person, available from any club member or by calling 863-632-0878, or 514-5638.
