John Phillips Beck, 1931-2023

John Phillips Beck of Lake Wales passed away Saturday, February 11, 2023 at his residence.

He was born July 2, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Ira and Mildred Beck; he moved to Lake Wales from Athens, Michigan in 1999. John was retired from Floyd Wonser Supply Company in Battle Creek, Michigan and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales and the Farm Equipment Wholesalers Administration. John was previously a volunteer at Bok Tower Gardens and the Lake Wales Art Center.

John was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy (Beck) Palmer, and Margaret (Beck) and Floyd Wonser; and special extended family members, Ruth Betty (Wonser) Renton, and Barbara (Palmer) White. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Laureen Beck; daughters, Joan Beck and husband Thomas Thornton of Avon Park, Sally Beck of Lake Wales, Carol Beck Blundy and husband David of Ionia, Michigan, and Barbara Barfield and husband Joseph of Colorado Springs, Colorado; six grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; and special extended family members, John and Meg Wonser, Gertrude (Wonser) West, and Betsy (Palmer) Burgett.

The family will receive friends from 1:15 p.m. until the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 20, 2023 in the church parlor of First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales with Rev. Mackay Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales (16 N 3rd Street, Lake Wales, FL 33853).
