Big Al and the Heavyweights Perform in Lake Wales Friday Night

Rock and Blues Concert Happens at The Spot

A special performance by the well-known touring band Big Al and the Heavyweights is happening this Friday night, September 22, at The Spot in Lake Wales.

Led by "Big Al" Lauro, the band was originally formed with Warren Haynes of Allman Brothers Band and Gov't Mule, along with pianist Rick Gergen, formerly of Sweethearts of the Rodeo. It now features Louisiana Music Hall of Fame pianist and vocalist Wayne Lohr, along with guitarist and vocalist extraordinaire Marcel Anton and renowned California bassist and vocalist Mark Parsons.

The New Orleans-based band maintains a busy concert schedule and is currently on the Florida leg of a nation-wide tour, with performances scheduled for St. Petersburg, Sebastian, and Ormond Beach, in addition to the Lake Wales show, before moving on to Mobile next week.

Big Al and the Heavyweights have seven music albums on the market and a large following for their mix of Blues and Zydeco that they call "American Roots." Both genres are essentially American and developed from Mississippi River Delta cultures.

They also perform a tribute to The Band honoring Robbie Robertson, the lead guitarist and writer of The Band’s classic hits “The Weight” and “Up on Cripple Creek.”

The concert is slated to start at 8:00 pm in the large hall at The Spot, 16905 US Hwy 27 in Lake Wales. That location is south of Hunt Brothers Road, across from the south entrance to Longleaf Business Park in a former Elks Lodge building, Tickets to the show are ten dollars, and a variety of food and drink specials are being offered.

Samples of the bands music and a complete performance schedule can be found on their website here.
