Communication Builds Our Community

Saturday's 39-Mile Yard Sale Expected to Draw Thousands

16th Annual Event Offers Bargain-Hunters Paradise

Communities along the entire length of the Ridge Scenic Highway will share in one of the area's most popular annual events this Saturday.

The 39-Mile Yard Sale has played an important role in promoting tourism in the Central Florida communities along the Ridge Scenic Highway since 2007.

Expected to draw thousands of people, it is known for being an outstanding opportunity to find great deals and interesting treasures, or just as an enjoyable family outing. Shoppers come from across Central Florida and beyond to take part in the event.

The sale runs from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and encompasses virtually the entire length of the Ridge Scenic Highway (SR-17) from Haines City to Frostproof. This means there are plenty of locations to shop.

The event is hosted by the Ridge Scenic Highway "Corridor Management Entity," an association of volunteers and representatives from cities and municipalities along the route. It is intended to raise awareness of the natural beauty of the Lake Wales Ridge by drawing visitors an highlighting the numerous historic places and nationally known attractions along its length.

There are five designated host locations this year, including the Lake Hamilton Town Hall at 100 Smith Avenue, Dundee Methodist Church, 219 East Merrill Avenue, Lake of the Hills Community Clubhouse, 47 East Starr Avenue, Lake Wales Woman's Club at 275 East Park Avenue,, and Wall Street in downtown Frostproof. While many customers are drawn to those "official" vendor sites featuring scores of booths, there are also many hidden gems offering treasures in front yards and driveways along the way.

Local non-profit organizations, including Lake Wales Little Theatre and Rotary on the Ridge, will be participating to help support their work in the community.

The yard sales are not the only bargains that are available as many, restaurants, shops, and other vendors had "Yard Sale" specials. These extra deals and other promotional offers further the outreach and provides another incentive for people to check out this awesome annual event.
