Audrey Swindal, 1928-2024

Environmental Educator

Audrey Swindal, age 95, passed away February 4, 2024, at her residence in Bartow. She was born on February 9, 1928, in St. Augustine, FL. She attended FSU where she started the Women's Rifle Team. She spent her career as Environmental Educator where she became known to many as "Mother Nature" She was awarded a Lifetime Membership with LEEF League of Environmental Educators as a historian and supporter. She was a Master Flower Show Judge and member of the Bartow Garden Club for over 50 years. She volunteered at the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs youth camp for close to 5 decades where the Nature Hut was named in her honor. She was awarded Facilitator of the Year by Florida Project WILD, received the Directors Award by the Florida State Parks and was a Master Gardener. She was a volunteer for Florida Division of Forestry, FL Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission & SW FL Water Mgmt. She was preceded in death by her husband Garrett Swindal and son Gary R. Swindal. She is survived by a loving family that includes her son Tommy Swindal (Jill) of Bartow, daughters Susan Napier (Bob) of Branford & Angela Hughes of St. Augustine, 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Interment will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Bartow.
