One Dead After Motorcycle Strikes Van at Sun Ray

A Kawasaki motorcycle lies on US 27-98 after the impact that took the life of a St. Cloud man. Kevin Loring, 37, was killed after a Nissan Quest van was driven into his path by a 48-year-old Frostproof woman.

A Sunday evening crash at Sun Ray Homes near Frostproof took the life of a St. Cloud motorcyclist.

According to Polk County Sheriff's Traffic Homicide Unit investigators, a 48-year-old Frostproof woman was driving a silver 2017 Nissan Quest van when she attempted to make a left turn onto southbound US 27-98 from Charles Street. She entered directly into the path of a black 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle, which was being driven northbound by 37-year old Kevin Loring.

Based upon evidence and witnesses, the van was traveling west on Charles Street, stopped at the intersection for a stop sign, then proceeded to make a left turn onto southbound US 27 in front of the motorcycle. The impact caused Loring to be ejected from the bike. Although Loring was wearing a helmet, upon arrival of first responders, he was found to be deceased. The other driver was transported from the scene by ambulance with minor injuries.

The fatal Sunday evening crash took place at the intersection of US 27 and Charles Street at Sun Ray, just southwest of Frostproof.

The investigation is still in its preliminary stage, according to the Polk Sheriff's office. Anyone with information about the circumstances of the crash is urged to contact the Sheriff's office.
