Landfill Tipping Fees Take a Jump Beginning October 1

The cost of dumping trash and yard waste at the county's only public landfill will rise this year and every year for the next five years following a vote by the Polk County Commission.

The new charges will affect solid waste disposal fees at the North Central Landfill, effective Oct.1, 2025. The increase in "tipping fees" follows on the heels of significant increases in the fees assessed for curbside collection in Polk County.

The cost of dumping at the landfill will increase to $46 per ton for both residential solid waste and construction and demolition debris. The fee for yard waste will rise to $36.50 per ton. In addition, the resolution includes an annual fee increase of 5% for the next five years.

The collection fees were increased last fall in a move that coincided with an end to curbside recycling in unincorporated Polk.

"The Polk County Solid Waste Division is pleased to have the support of the Board of County Commissioners," said Polk County Solid Waste Director Dale Henderson. "The revised fees are intended to support the continued development and sustainable operation of the North Central Landfill."
