    Vernon S. Dempsey, 78, of Lake Wales passed away Friday, March 29 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale. He was born December 12, 1940 in Signal Mountain, TN to the late James Willie and Minnetta Dorothy (Miles) Dempsey. He has been a resident of the area for 12 years and Florida for 22 years.   • Crooked Lake Heritage Festival April 6

    The 2019 Crooked Lake Heritage Festival will celebrate the rich history of Babson Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 at Webber International University. The free event includes live music, history displays, art activities, food trucks and performance by the Babson Park Elementary chorus. At 9 a.m. teams will compete in the Big Kahuna Paddle Challenge. Teams of 10-14 paddlers will race a 29-foot Voyager canoe around a buoy and back to earn the title "Big Kahuna."...

    Lake of the Hills Community Club is offering a gourmet grilled chicken dinner from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 30. The event at their clubhouse at 47 E Starr Ave north of Lake Wales will include live country music, drawings, a clown and silent auction.     Bok Tower Gardens is the place to be Saturday, March 30, as they host five special events. Sounds and Yoga for Energy Balancing will run from 9 a.m. to noon. Reiki Master and Sound Healer Kristen Tenpenny will take participants on an exploration of the layers of energy inside you.
