Marilyn Edwards, 1932-2020

Marilyn Dye Edwards, 88, of Belleair Beach, FL died Saturday, Dec. 26, 200 in the home of her daughter in Sarasota where she was convalescing following a sudden illness.

Born Oct. 3, 1932 in Plant City she moved to Bradenton and then to Avon Park, prior to moving to Lake Wales where she lived most of her life. It was in Lake Wales where she attended high school and was a member of the Glee Club and voted Homecoming Queen her senior year.

She received her nursing degree from St Vincent's in Jacksonville and was a nurse for over 40 years where she always wore her white uniform and nursing cap. At the completion of her nursing career she was Director of Nurses of Lake Wales Hospital.

Following her retirement she and her husband, Donald L Edwards, moved to Belleair Beach in 1993. She enjoyed her retirement by traveling, cruising, and visiting casinos along the way. Living at the condo on the beach she was the welcoming committee to all those who regularly visited and who all lovingly dubbed her "Queen Marilyn". Her favorite part of the day was sitting at the condo on the beach, under the tiki hut with all her visiting friends, enjoying a cold beverage with cherries and watching the sunset.

Preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Don; she is survived by two daughters and their husbands: Yvonne (Bill) Welborn of Port St. John; Mary (Jim) Sherry of Sarasota; two grandsons: Layton (Angela) Welborn of White House, TN, Chad (Stephanie) Welborn of Rockmart, GA; one sister: Betty Thomas of Lakeland; three great-grandchildren: Briana Martin, Tyler Welborn, Carder Welborn; twin great-great grandsons: Benjamin and Alexander Martin; and a grand-dog: Oreo Sherry.
