Three rail crossings on the west side of Lake Wales will be closed for repairs to the grades, although CSX has predicted that each closing will last only 24 hours. Scheduled crossing closures include Old Ice House Road, North Lake Wales Alturas Road, and Alturas Babson Park Cut-off Road. All three crossings serve the main CSX line, which carries both passenger and freight traffic.
Old Ice House Road is scheduled to close at the rail crossing south of Morrel Avenue at 7 a.m. on Monday, May 19 and re-open at the same hour on Tuesday, May 20. That same day, North Lake Wales-Alturas Road will close at the rail crossing between Crews Road and Lake Buffum-West Lake Wales Road. That closing will also begin at 7 a.m. and re-open on Wednesday, May 21.
The third closing will affect Alturas-Babson Park Cut-off Road (ABC Road) at the rail crossing east of the Alturas Babson Park Cut-off Road and Crews Road intersection. It will close on Wednesday, May 21 and re-open on Thursday, May 22. Each of the three rail crossing closures will begin at 7 a.m. and will re-open the following day at 7 a.m.
All lanes of travel across the tracks will be closed at each location until repairs are complete. Residents are asked to plan alternative routes as needed to avoid delays.
