Library Brings Back "Food for Fines" Program

Remember that library book, and the DVD you checked out last year and forgot to return? Yeah, that one...

Well, there's good news. Now you don't have to pay the fine! Just bring a few foodstuffs, help some needy families during the holidays, and you're off the hook!

The Lake Wales Public Library is conducting their annual Holiday Food for Fines program beginning November 1. The program runs through December 31.

Food for Fines is an annual fine amnesty program that provides library patrons the opportunity to "pay" overdue fines with a donation of food to the Lake Wales Care Center's Food Pantry. Your overdue materials may be returned with at least five non-perishable food items, or outstanding fines owed may be "paid" with the same donation.

The library will accept returned library materials, no matter how long overdue. Lost or damaged materials are not included in this amnesty program.

And just in case you didn't hear the good news, the Lake Wales Public Library no longer charges overdue fines on their materials. Fines owed to other Polk County Library Cooperative sites that still due may be paid with a donation to the Food for Fines program in Lake Wales.

For more information on participating in this program call the library, 863-678-4004, or email [email protected].
