Polk School Board Candidates Will Participate in Lake Wales Forum

Only Event Scheduled Countywide to Take Place Here July 18

The August primary election will be the final chance to vote in some local races, including those for new school board members for four different seats on the seven-member board.

A total of nine candidates are seeking spots on the board, which governs more than 100 local schools.

The two events will take place on Monday, July 18 and Thursday July 21., The public is encouraged to come hear the candidates discuss the challenges facing public education, and the important role that it plays in our community.

The Forum Series will be sponsored by a host of local organizations including the American Association of University Women, Family Literacy Academy at Lake Wales, Citizen Support Services, and Rotary on the Ridge.

Both events will be held at the James P. Austin Community Center in Lake Wales, with doors opening at 6:00 pm. The events will begin at 6:30pm.

July 18th will feature Sara Jones and Justin Sharpless, candidates for the open Seat Six, and three candidates for Seat Seven, including the incumbent Lisa Miller, and challengers Dell Quary and Jill Sessions.

July 21st will feature the candidates for Seat Three, including incumbent Sarah Fortney and challenger Richard Nolte, along with Seat Five incumbent Kay Fields and her opponent, Terry Clark.
