Crystal Lake Trail Design to be Discussed at Public Workshop

New Connecting Segment Will Circle Lake

Last updated 1/21/2023 at 9:06am

A special public workshop at Crystal Lake Park will give residents an opportunity to discuss ideas and options for a new connecting bike-and-pedestrian trail segment. Engineers and planners will be on hand to share design ideas and preliminary drawings. The proposed trail, linking Lake Wales Library and the Bok Academy North neighborhood with Park Avenue and the Lake Wailes Trail, will parallel Sessoms Avenue on the north side of Crystal Lake, and is expected to offer views of the lake.

The new trail network is part of the overall plan for "Lake Wales Connected," the award-winning re-design of city streets and trails.

The workshop will take place at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, February 1, at the Lake Wales Tourist Club, adjacent to the city shuffleboard and tennis courts at 205 North 5th Street.

The new trail will also connect that facility to the city's growing trail network. The Park Avenue Connector Trail on the south side of Crystal Lake is nearing completion, with only final landscaping lacking. It is now open to the public for use, and provides access from the Lake Wailes Trail to downtown restaurants and services for bicyclists and pedestrians.
