Donald V. Hendrick, 1939-2023

Donald V. Hendrick passed away on his 84th birthday, on October 3, 2023, in Winter Haven, Florida. He was born on October 3, 1939, in Bereah, Florida, to Mr. & Mrs. Vince A. Hendrick.

Don attended grade school in Key West, where his father was on shore duty, and in Sulphur Springs. He attended junior high in Fort Meade, Florida, and graduated from Fort Meade High School in 1957. He graduated from Florida State University with a Master's Degree in Genetics and from Queen's University (Kingston, Ontario) with a Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1971.

Don held a post-doctoral research/lecture/teaching position at the Free University of Berlin and senior positions at Occidental Research, the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, and at Bethesda Research Laboratories in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Upon his return to Florida, he was actively involved in the Florida citrus and cattle industry as well as doing research in the field of renewable fuels. Don is a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Winter Haven.

He was predeceased by his son Nils Hendrick and is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Irmgard Hendrick, his son Karsten Hendrick (Austin, TX), and his daughter Krista (Alex) Mahalak, and grandsons Madden and Sigmund (Ziggy) Mahalak of Winter Haven.

Don was a generous friend and helper to many. He will be greatly missed by his loving family, numerous friends and relatives, and favorite cousin Paulette Gillispie.

Funeral services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Winter Haven, Florida, at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, Good Shepherd Hospice, or a charity of your choice. Condolences to family at http://www.whiddenmcleanfuneralhome.com
