Nancy Mae (Keyes) Sharkey, 1952-2023

Nancy Mae (Keyes) Sharkey, age 71, of Nalcrest, FL, passed away on November 21, 2023.

Nancy was born April 24, 1952 to William and Phyllis Keyes in Worcester, MA

She is survived by her husband, James Sharkey; her daughter, Danielle Kurtzweil and son, Nicholas Kurtzweil; her grandchildren Rebecca Kurtzweil, Demetrious and Mary Williams, Zoe Williams, MacKenzie Williams, Charlene Kurtzweil and Jayden Kurtzweil; her siblings June (Keyes) Wild, Barbara (Keyes)and Larry Hillyer, Betty (Keyes) Schwantz, Bill and Chris Keyes and Michael and Laure Keyes; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Nancy's passing comes as a surprise to those who are closest to her. Her devoted husband, Sharkey, and sister, June, were there by her side throughout those final moments.

She will be remembered for her willingness to go on one adventure to another with her sister, June. Whether it was camping at Devil's Lake, Great America, (not so apparent) sandbars to be attacked by flying fish, or the Wisconsin State Fair, she was there for it, and her children's, nieces and nephews and later, her grandchildren's lives were enriched by her presence. Though her absolute favorite place was Walt Disney World. She was forever enchanted by the magic of Disney.

In life, she had a sense of humor that was offbeat and sometimes lost on those around her, but funny nonetheless. She was smart and incredibly creative. She enjoyed mystery movies. All of them. From the old black and white movies like Charlie Chan and The Thin Man, to Sherlock Holmes and Peirot, to Murder She Wrote. Her grandchildren's fondest memories involve these late night mystery marathons. She also loved to dance. She always looked forward to social occasions that would allow her to get up on that dance floor. She enjoyed going to the casino. Though she mostly played those penny slots, the opportunity of a big win was what intrigued her. She enjoyed taking trips with Sharkey to places like Biloxi, or Laughlin and Las Vegas, or the various obscure casinos they found around Florida.

But her all time favorite pastime was watching the Green Bay Packers. Every Sunday ((or Monday)(or even an occasional Thursday)(and sometimes Saturdays and Tuesday)) she would be there cheering on the green and gold. And heaven help the poor soul who sat next to her because her enthusiasm should have come with hazard pay. She was a hard core fan that rose and fell with the Pack's wins and losses, she was loyal through and through.

Celebration of life to be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida: Marine Mammal Fund which supports among others habitat restoration, rescue, and rehabilitation for manatees
