Elizabeth "Betty" Brown King, 1936-2025

Elizabeth "Betty" Brown King passed away on April 30, 2025. She was 94 years old.

Mrs. King was born June 5, 1930 in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada and met the man she would marry while he was stationed at the U.S. Naval Base in Argentia, Newfoundland. Betty and Amos King would marry there on October 18th, 1947. Mrs. King would follow her bridegroom home to Alturas, Florida where she would live the rest of her life, raise an extensive family, and was widely known as the best wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a strong faith in the Lord and was a Christian.

Mrs. King, with her husband, owned successful businesses in automotive repair and in the citrus industry.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel "Amos" King, her parents, Thomas Brown and Madge Moore Brown, daughter Reba Avila, and sons-in-law, Johnny McKinney and Terry Macy. Daughter-in-law Patsy King, brothers, Tom, Max, and Bob Brown and sister Eva Mercer.

Mrs. King is survived by her children Eddie King, David King, Rita McKinney, Sheila Spivey (Robert) and Eva Macy, brother Everett Brown, sisters Lena Smith and Madge Peacock and many adoring grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Special thanks to extended family Tammy Keen and Julia "Sissy" Sparks.

Visitation will be 10 to 11am Tuesday, May 6, 2025 with funeral to follow at 11:00 am at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow, FL. Burial at Wildwood Cemetery in Bartow, FL. Condolences to family at http://www.whiddenmcleanfuneralhome.com
