Flora Gooch, 1925-2019

Flora S. Gooch passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 14th in Winter Haven of natural causes. She was blessed to have lived for a full 94 years. She was born March 25, 1925.

She was first married to Capt. Homer E. Scheets with whom she had 2 daughters. Following his death in 1958 from a military plane accident, she moved with her 2 little girls to Lake Wales, where she was close to her family. She remarried in 1962 to Roy J. Gooch who worked at Florida Power and Light, and was blessed with a third daughter.

As a professional cosmetologist, she worked many years at the Plantation Inn and in Nalcrest Estates. Mrs. Gooch was a talented artist and enjoyed many years playing the organ.

Mrs. Gooch was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Roy J. Gooch. She is survived by her three daughters, Velma Jean Scheets, Diane Scheets Musselwhite and Dr. Dana L. Giles, a sister Mrs. Irene Lee, a brother Marvin Shiver, four grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren.

Her viewing will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday May 22 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales, followed by a graveside service at the Bushnell Florida National Cemetery at 2 p.m.
