Beach Battle Water Relays Set June 8 at Tanner's Lakeside

Benefit for Rotary on the Ridge Foundation

A fun family day of water relays and other activities will start at noon Saturday, June 8 on Lake Howard in Winter Haven. The "Beach Battle" fundraising event will benefit the Rotary on the Ridge Foundation.

In addition to Rotary, sponsors are Tanner's Lakeside Restaurant and Bar, Paddleboard Winter Haven and Lowe's. The event will take place on the beach at Tanner's, 1006 S. Lake Howard Drive.

Beach Battle will include kayak, paddleboard and cardboard boat races. Other planned activities include a water bounce house, 3-legged races, potato sack races, egg races, a hula hoop competition and more.

Kayak races will start at 2 p.m. and paddleboard races at 3 p.m. Entry fees are $15 for individuals and $25 for a 2-person relay team.

Teams build their cardboard boats between 1 and 3:30 p.m. and then race about 25 yards starting at 4 p.m. The cardboard boat entry fee is $30 per team.

The event also will include raffles and trophies will be presented at 5 p.m. Bickley Island Chill will provide live music.

The Rotary on the Ridge Foundation supports community service projects, including a water safety initiative, of Rotary on the Ridge, an after-hours regional service club chartered in December 2016 by Rotary International. The club meets from 5-6 p.m. on Mondays at the Ouellette Law Firm Community Room, 151 E. Central Ave. in Lake Wales. Visitors are welcome.
