Highlanders Crush Kissimmee Gateway to Assure Playoff Spot

Team Will Face Non-District Opponent Bartow Friday

Wrapping up their District 7 play with a flourish, the Lake Wales Highlanders overwhelmed Kissimmee Gateway by a score of 58-0 Friday night. The win assures the local eleven a place in the playoffs with a 3-1 record in district play, their only loss coming to Auburndale by a 14-8 score.

Multiple turnovers led to quick scores for the Highlanders this week, who built a 30-0 halftime lead after a scoreless first frame. Standout RB Marquish Seabon racked up another 200+ yard game, giving him more than 1700 yards on the season, with one game remaining.

Highlander Sophomore RB Carlos Mitchell opened the scoring for Lake Wales, and Seabon followed with his own dash for paydirt. Jerimiah Anglin contributed an interception, his fifth of the season, on a leaping grab.

Junior Quarterback Trent Grotjan took command of the game, both rifling passes and on the ground before Senior QB Tyron Summerall took over, dashing in for a keeper TD that moved the scoreboard to 51-0 at the end of the third quarter.

The Highlanders will take on non-district rival Bartow next Friday night in Bartow. The Yellowjackets improved to 5-4 on the season this week with a 44-7 win over George Jenkins. Gametime is 7:30 pm.
