Polk Sheriff's Office Traffic Homicide investigators worked the scene of a fatal crash in the early hours of Wednesday morning after a driver crossed the center line and smashed head-on into an oncoming vehicle, killing a passenger. Charges are still pending in the incident.

The preliminary investigation by the PCSO's Traffic Homicide investigators determined that Douglas Fairel, Jr. of Haines City was driving a 2021 Cadillac Escalade westbound on Lake Hatchineha Road when his vehicle crossed over the center line and collided head-on with a 2009 Toyota Camry that was being driven by 63-year old Yvon Dorelien.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, 61-year old Agnes Dorelien, also of Haines City, was a passenger in the Camry. She was severely injured and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Her husband, who was driving, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was also transported by ambulance to a hospital.

Fairel was treated at the scene. According to deputies, all three occupants of the two vehicles were wearing seatbelts prior to the crash.

No charges have been filed while the investigation remains ongoing.
