Rev. Berry Sholar, 1922-2020

The Rev. Berry Sholar, 97, of Lake Wales passed away Saturday, Aug. 29, 2020 at his residence.

He was born December 4, 1922 in Climax, GA to the late Oscar and Mamie Sholar. He came to Lake Wales following World War II, in which he served with the United States Army. Rev. Berry was a retired Baptist minister, his pastorates include Central Avenue Baptist Church, Grace Baptist Church; and Bethel Baptist Church, all of Lake Wales. He also served in Arcadia; Tallahassee; Rockport, Indiana; Kentucky; and Pennsylvania. Rev. Berry was a chaplain for his vets, an airplane pilot, and was very musically and artistically talented. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Rev. Berry was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Sholar in 1997; daughter, Sandra Sholar; sons, Berry Sholar and Allen Sholar. He is survived by his daughters; Kathryn Sizemore and husband Marvin of Lake Wales, and Evelyn Ayers of Auburndale; brother, Choice Sholar of McGraw, New York; six grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 2 at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales with Rev. Keith Wolfe officiating. Interment will take place at Lake Wales Cemetery.
